A New Perspective
“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise.” (Psalm 145:3, NIV)
I had a good childhood. I knew that my father loved me, but unfortunately he never said, “I love you.” On the other hand, God, my Heavenly Father, tells me page after page in the scriptures that He loves me. He also promises never to leave me and to supply all my needs.
Earthly fathers cannot do for us what God can do. They have limitations. Yet in spite of their shortcomings we set aside a special day each year to honor them. Sons and daughters rush around shopping for the perfect gifts and cards. Family members congregate for picnics and parties. Relatives, who hardly ever get together during the year, may even manage to join in the festivities.
The world is caught up in honoring earthly fathers. But isn’t it strange that most of us never think of honoring our Heavenly Father in a special way on Father’s Day.
Why don’t we do something different this year! On Father’s Day, let’s consider setting aside a specific time for praise and prayer to thank God for all His blessings. Our Heavenly Father will definitely be pleased.
PRAYER: Father, thank You for continually telling us how much You love us. Amen
